Is Google Making Us Stupid?

First off I would like to say I thought this article was much easier to read than the last one. I think the main reason I enjoyed this article more is because it was about something that is much more interesting to me than rhetoric. It was much easier to understand as well.

I think Carr is kind of overreacting to Google and the internet. I don’t think that Google is making us stupid. And I don’t think that the way that we read and the way that we think is changing. In the article, he seems to have a big problem with the fact that a lot of people skim when on the internet rather than actually reading all the way through a site. But just because people skim, doesn’t mean the way they read is changing. They are still perfectly capable to read something all the way through if they want too. Skimming just makes it easier to get what you need faster. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.
Even though I don’t agree with most of the article, I do agree that the internet is replacing most of the other technologies. Carr says that “It’s becoming our map and our clock, our printing press and our typewriter, our calculator and our telephone, and our radio and TV.” The internet has all of these things available to us in seconds which in my opinion, is a good thing.

I also agree with Carr that the internet is just a mess of distractions. Every website has links to other sites, advertisements, and a lot of other things to distract you. Even the site the article was on had tons of videos, a link to Facebook, and some links to news stories. All things to distract us from the article we were supposed to read. These distractions make it nearly impossible to escape the never-ending web that is the internet.
