Reality TV Assignment

As much as I don’t want to admit it, I am a fan of some reality TV shows. I know they are all crap and have hardly anything real about them but somehow they are incredibly entertaining to me. The show Keeping up with the Kardashians is my guilty pleasure. The family has so much good drama between each other and between their love interests. I think drama like theirs is interesting to watch as long as it’s not my drama. I have probably wasted a good chunk of my life watching this show and several other reality TV shows such as America’s Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser, The Glee Project, Dancing with the Stars, Jersey Shore and Say Yes to the Dress. Recently I have stopped watching these shows because I have realized that they are crap. Jersey Shore is probably the most disgusting show that has ever been put onto television. At first I watched the show because I thought the people’s drama was funny. But then the show turned into a ‘who can have the most sex with random people’ kind of thing. All the characters did was get drunk and have sex with people they meet at the club. Which is disgusting. I’m sure they all have STDs by now. Just when I thought I was done with the reality shows, it’s starting to begin again. Unfortunately, for the last week, my roommate has made me watch some reality TV shows like Big Brother and Teen Mom. They are not the worst of the reality TV but they are not very good. But the sad part is that there is not that much else on TV. Every channel you switch to has reality TV playing. I’ll admit not all of them are terrible shows and some of them do have some realness to them. But overall I think that reality TV is not having a good effect on today’s society. People watching Jersey Shore are learning that it’s okay to go out and get drunk and hook up with people. America’s Next Top Model teaches people that girls need to be 6’10’’ and super skinny to have successful careers. All of these things are things that shouldn’t be the focus of our lives. Instead we should focus on our reality and what is happing around us.
